Troopers Stop SUV Driven By Man Having Medical Problem On Parkway In E. Orange
A 68-year-old man was hospitalized Thursday after his SUV was safely brought to a stop by New Jersey State Police on the Garden State Parkway near the border of Union and Essex counties. The incident began when police responded to a report of an erratic driver on the northbound Parkway in Cranford around 10:40 a.m., said Trooper Alejandro Goez. The driver did not respond when troopers in marked cars activated their lights and sirens, Goez said. Troopers managed to use their vehicles to bring the driver to a halt in East Orange. 'Apple Watch Saved My Life,' Edgewater Mom Says
If it weren't for the Apple Watch, Christina Ling of Edgewater may not be alive. Ling had been experiencing flu symptoms and went to urgent care. all tests came back negative, she said in an interview with USA Today. After nearly two days of sleeping in bed, the mom's Apple Watch indicated that her heart rate was 150 beats per minute. Medical Episode Triggers Ridgewood Crash
A driver having an apparent medical episode was involved in a crash Wednesday that sent both vehicles off a Ridgewood roadway onto nearby lawns. The driver was taken by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center following the crash in front of 522 North Maple Avenue. No other injuries were reported. A flatbed tow truck removed both wrecks from the scene. Responders included village police, firefighters and EMS, Ho-Ho-Kus police and a paramedic team from The Valley Hospital that assisted Ridgewood EMTs. Boyd A. Loving contributed to this account.

PIP Fatal: Civilian Pulls Fort Lee Man From Car In Fiery Alpine Crash
UPDATE: A Good Samaritan stopped and pulled a 69-year-old man from his burning car after it crashed into a tree off the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Alpine early Thursday night, but the victim was later pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Albert Stanczyk was headed south on the parkway alone when he apparently has some kind of medical emergency near Exit 3 just after 5 p.m., PIP Police Chief Michael Coppola said. Suspected Medical Emergency Sends SUV Into Teaneck Utility Pole
TEANECK, N.J. -- Responders believe a driver suffered a medical emergency before her SUV slammed into a utility pole Thursday afternoon in Teaneck, shattering it and downing a transformer and various wires. Teaneck police, firefighters and EMS responded to the 2:15 p.m. crash on East Lawn Drive, which knocked out power to more than 135 area customers, according to a PSE&G outage map.
