Spike Strips Stop Stolen Vehicle Fleeing Mahwah Development: One Caught, Two Sought On Route 17
Mahwah police captured an overnight stolen car thief and searched for two others after using spike strips to stop the vehicle before dawn Friday, authorities said. The 2022 BMW X7 kept rolling and hit a Mahwah police car after the trio bailed out on Route 17 shortly before 2:30 a.m. Nov. 25. No serious injuries were reported. Mahwah Pizzeria 'Robber' Threatens To Shoot Employees, Flees Empty-Handed
A would-be robber fled a Mahwah pizzeria empty-handed after threatening to shoot the employees, authorities said. The white suspect was wearing a tan jacket when he entered Mahwah Pizza & Pasta on MacArthur Boulevard shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, Mayor Jim Wysocki said. He demanded money from the register and threatened to shoot the employees several times, witnesses said. He didn't show a weapon, however. Current P.O. box holders can pick up their keys for the new Mahwah post office through this Saturday. The keys are available at the temporary location on 46 Industrial Drive, Postmaster Michael Watts said. Vertical Hold: Dump Truck Trailer Gets Wedged Under Route 17 Overpass In Mahwah
Two heavy-duty wreckers working back-to-back were needed to remove a dump truck trailer that jammed both a Route 17 overpass in Mahwah and the northbound Tuesday evening rush. The driver received a careless driving summons after the 4:40 p.m. mishap at the MacArthur Boulevard overpass, which left only one passable lane on the highway a little over two miles south of the Rockland County border. In an odd coincidence, a crash requiring Mahwah firefighters to cut victims from a vehicle Saturday occurred exactly a year to the day that another collision happened at that same intersection. Mahwah police spoiled the 4th of July party for two out-of-towners – one a parolee, the other a probationer – after catching them with an assortment of fireworks during a traffic stop, authorities said. Officer Christopher Fasulo stopped their New York-registered commercial van for a violation on MacArthur Boulevard, Police Chief James N. Batelli said.
