There were few dry eyes in the Bergen County Animal Shelter Tuesday, Aug. 6, as a dog who ran from a crash scene in New York two months ago was reunited with her owner. Salem Mannequin has been tirelessly searching for her yellow lab Nyla since the June 7 crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway at White Plains Road, she tells Daily Voice. She was in a hospital bed at Jacobi Medical Center hours after the accident when she realized, her baby was missing. The reward for finding a seeing eye dog from Sussex County who’s been missing nearly 2½ weeks was increased Thursday to $6,000. An anonymous tip line also was established to report any sightings of Ondrea, the 14-month-old black and tan German shepherd who reportedly bolted on June 24 after pushing through an exterior door with a broken latch at the Wantage home of a volunteer puppy raiser. Ondrea is fully grown -- about 50 pounds. A 6-year-old Yorkie Terrier who two women picked up off a Leonia street Thursday morning brought him to Fort Lee police more than 24 hours later, authorities said. Leonia police said Friday that they were looking into why the women took the dog and why it took so long to return him. A dog owner who on Sunday was undergoing surgery to fix her jaw injured in crash is desperate to find her dog who bolted from the scene early Saturday morning on Interstate 95 in Teaneck. Akela, a hound mix, has been spotted in busy areas close to Route 4 in Hackensack, Teaneck and Bogota since the 2 a.m. collision Saturday. The dog is frightened easily and should not be chased. UPDATE: A Midland Park dog who went missing this week in Glen Rock has been found. ** ORIGINAL STORY ** A second dog has gone missing this week in Bergen County -- this time in the Fair Lawn/Glen Rock area.
