Driver Hospitalized After SUV Narrowly Misses Bus Shelter, Slams Into Tree On Route 17
A driver was hospitalized with chest pains following a pre-dawn single-vehicle crash Friday on rain-soaked Route 17. The SUV narrowly missed taking out a bus shelter but ran over a sign and then slammed into a tree on the highway's southbound side just past Hollywood Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus shortly before 6:30 a.m. Oct. 20. The driver was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. The wreckage was removed on a Citywide Towing flatbed. Citywide Towing removed the severely damaged SUV on a flatbed.Boyd A. Basement Fire Quickly Doused In Ridgewood
Ridgewood firefighters made quick work of a Tuesday morning basement blaze. The fire broke out in the utility room of the $3.6 million Crest Road home shortly before 10:30 a.m. April 25. Flooring and/or tile work apparently was being done on the house at the time, responders said. Two adults and a child who were home got out OK, and damage apparently was minimal, they said. Village police and EMS and Ho-Ho-Kus firefighters also responded. Boyd A. Loving took the photo and contributed to this account.

SUV Mounts Route 17 Guardrail
Ho-Ho-Kus firefighters wedged wooden blocks behind a back tire of an SUV that had mounted a Route 17 guardrail Friday afternoon. A young female driver got out OK and didn't appear injured -- leaving the car tipped in a precarious position -- following the single-vehicle crash on the southbound highway near Hollywood Avenue on Friday afternoon, Feb. 24. The right lane was temporarily closed while the Honda CR-V was righted and removed. Ho-Ho-Kus police were investigating.

Authorities on Monday identified a resident killed in a weekend apartment fire at a senior living community in Ridgewood. The body of Denise Dillon, 72, was found after firefighters doused the flames in her unit at the Ridgecrest Senior Housing development on Ridge Road shortly after 7:30 p.m., Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke said. "At this time, it appears that the fire started accidentally," Lutchcke said. Three Injured In Separate Route 17 Crashes
Three people were injured in separate Thursday morning crashes on either side of Route 17 in Ho-Ho-Kus. The first occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. and the next about a half-hour later, both near Hollywood Avenue. Two people were taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. Their conditions couldn't immediately be determined. Traffic was jammed on either side of the highway. Responding were Ho-Ho-Kus, Ridgewood and Saddle River police, Ho-Ho-Kus firefighters and Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood EMS. Boyd A. Loving took the photo and provided the information.
