NJ Police Officer Dies After Cancer Battle, 35: Remembering Carlos Gonzalez, Jr.
Carlos Gonzalez, Jr., a police officer in Fanwood and Scotch Plains resident, died on Wednesday, March 5 after a battle with lymphoma, the borough said. He was 35.
Gonzalez was born and raised in Newark, graduating from East Side High School, according to an obituary posted by the Borough of Fanwood.
Earning a criminal justice degree from Kean University, he became a police officer in Newark, serving for six years before joining Fanwood in 2020, his obituary reads.

Noriega Nominated For NJ Supreme Court
Michael Noriega, a Union County resident, has been nominated to be the newest justice on the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Gov. Phil Murphy formally announced Noriega's nomination on Monday, May 15. Noriega, who was born in Weehawken, will be replacing Justice Barry Albin, who reached the mandatory retirement age. Noriega, who was raised in Union City and lives in Fanwood, is Murphy's fourth appointment to the bench.

Funeral services are planned later this week for Marco M. Giasullo, who died suddenly on June 8.
A Dover resident, Marco grew up in Scotch Plains and was a graduate of Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, where he was a pitcher for the varsity baseball team. After earning an economics degree from the University of Rhode Island he worked in the banking industry in Rhode Island and in New Jersey.
An avid fan of the New York Yankees, Marco also loved to play golf. He played guitar and loved to mix music on his computer.
