DUI Driver, 27, Slams Car Into Telephone Pole In Fair Lawn: Police
A 27-year-old Fair Lawn man was arrested for driving under the influence after crashing his car into a telephone pole over the weekend, authorities said.
Police Officer Vincent Messina responded to the scene at the corner of Fair Lawn and Parmelee avenues around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, after receiving reports of a single-car crash, police said.
The driver, identified as Luis A. Gamarroarrego, failed a roadside sobriety test and was taken into custody, authorities said.

A New Jersey Lottery player in Bergen County just struck it big, winning a $1,065,447 jackpot in the Wednesday night, Feb. 5 Jersey Cash 5 drawing, officials announced.
The winning ticket was sold at Fair Lawn News Shop on Fair Lawn Avenue.

Fair Lawn police who interrupted an overnight burglary captured one of the fleeing bandits after he hopped into the Passaic River, authorities said.
The burglars scattered as police arrived at the corner of Fair Lawn Avenue and River Road shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, Sgt. Eric Eleshewich said.
It was around 6:30 a.m. when officers spotted one of them about a quarter-mile up River Road, the sergeant said.
Seeing them, he ran down to the river, where the officers captured him, Eleshewich said.

$1 Million Settlement Collected By Fair Lawn Driver Rear-Ended Stopping For Pedestrian
A Fair Lawn driver collected a $1 million settlement for a rear-end crash that his attorney said forced him to change jobs.
Gjon Lahu, 35, stopped to let a pedestrian cross Fair Lawn Avenue in September 2017 when his vehicle was struck from behind.
Lahu was seriously injured and required physical therapy, chiropractic treatment, epidural injections and other surgery as a result, his attorney, Mark McBratney of Siegel Law in Ridgewood, told NJLaw.com.
Lahu, who was an auto mechanic at the time, had to take a less-strenuous job as a school custodian because of his injuries, McBratney said.

A pedestrian struck and killed Wednesday morning outside the Fair Lawn municipal building lived around the corner, authorities said.
Yuri Berger, 63, was crossing Fair Lawn Avenue up the street from his Edward Street home when he was struck in the crosswalk by a 2012 Honda SUV driven by a 53-year-old Fair Lawn man around 9:45 a.m., Police Sgt. Sean Macys said.
The impact knocked him under a 2017 Mercedes Benz sedan that was stopped near the corner of Parmalee Avenue, Macys said.
Police rushed to his aid, lifting the vehicle and administering CPR before EMS took over, the sergeant said.

Bail Reform: Fair Lawn Police Nab Shoplifting Duo With 9 Outstanding Warrants
Fair Lawn police nabbed four out-of-town shoplifters who were apparently operating as group – two of whom, in turned out, had several outstanding warrants between them, authorities said.
Officers responding to the shoplifting call at the CVS on Fair Lawn Avenue stopped a vehicle with the four inside.
They recovered nearly $500 worth of stolen merchandise and a small amount of drugs, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.
Arrested were Michael Bouchotte, 32, and Julia Macello, 27, both of Teaneck; Robert Pitts, 44, of Paterson and Samantha Boseski, 30, of Clifton, Metzler said.
