CLIFFVIEW PILOT SCOOP: New York authorities captured a Wyckoff man who police said slammed his car into a patrol cruiser in the parking lot of a Hawthorne Dunkin Donuts and then took off. Philip V. Hermida has a history of run-ins with police, law enforcement sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Two officers — one from North Haledon, the other from Midland Park — were standing in the lot when Hermida’s Chevy Cobalt rammed the North Haledon police car around 2:30 a.m., law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT a short time after the incident.

The officers weren’t injured, but the impact pushed the cruiser, one source said.

Hawthorne police issued a warrrant charging Hermida, 54, with attempted murder.

Police in Seneca Falls, N.Y., said they arrested Hermida yesterday afternoon at a local hotel after receiving information that he might be there and finding the heavily damaged Cobalt.

Hermida is being held in the Seneca County Correctional Facility pending extradition to New Jersey.
