Upper Saddle River Police: NY Trio Had Gun, Pot, $5,500 In Route 17 Stop

UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J. -- A trio from upstate New York had an ounce of pot, $5,500 in cash and a .38 caliber revolver in their car when Upper Saddle River police stopped them on northbound Route 17, authorities said Thursday.

Middletown residents Justin Rivera, 20, and Hector Paz, 21, were charged with possession of the marijuana and with employing a minor to commit a crime following the 12:30 p.m. stop Wednesday, Detective Lt. Edward Kane said.

Paz was being held on $10,000 bail and Rivera on $7,500 in the Bergen County Jail.

A 17-year-old who was with them was sent to the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center in Teterboro on a complaint charging weapons and drug offenses.
