The suspect took off in a Chrysler sedan along with an 18-year-old man who apparently wasn’t directly involved in the sale at the Route 17 station off Franklin Turnpike, according to unofficial reports.

Ho-Ho-Kus police joined their Ridgewood counterparts in chasing the vehicle along Franklin Turnpike.

They quickly captured one suspect, then called in two canines during what began as a foot chase toward Valleau Cemetery. The second suspect was snared just before 8 p.m.

Jonathan Mortimer was released without bail on a resisting arrest summons.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Joseph Saltalamacchia was charged with drug distribution and eluding police.

The 5-foot-4-inch Saltalamacchia was being held on $50,000 bail.

The chase began during an undercover buy at a site that’s drawn headlines over the years for gasoline seepage into neighboring wells from underground storage tanks.

Hefty fines were paid and remedial steps were taken to eliminate the problem.

A 7-Eleven is planned for the spot.
