YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: Two people were hospitalized after a tractor-trailer rear-ended a commercial van on northbound Route 17 in Upper Saddle River this morning, nearly sending it into a nearby stream.

The 6:40 a.m. crash between Pleasant Avenue and East Allendale Road brought Upper Saddle River police, firefighters and EMS, along with Mahwah Fire Department Co 2 Hazmat, which cleaned up a hydraulic fluid spill.

Upper Saddle River Ambulance Corps took the victims to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern with what Detective Lt. Edward Kane said weren’t life-threatening injuries.

Tow trucks removed both vehicles. Two lanes of traffic were closed for about an hour and a half.

“Saddle River Police and the Upper Saddle River Fire Department assisted with the investigation,” Kane said.

Another tractor-trailer crash involving two sedans occurred nearby around the same time. No serious injuries were reported.
