The lockdown was lifted around 1 p.m., a little over three hours after the message was discovered in the girl's locker room.
"It's not a credible threat," Police Lt. Douglas Moore told Daily Voice. "We already have some leads."
The Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence, while a sheriff's K-9 squad searched lockers and classrooms, Moore said. No weapons or other suspicious items were found, he said.
"Classes at the high school and middle school continued as usual, and police remained on campus for the rest of the day," Schools Supt. Paul D. Casarico added. "Classes will resume as normal tomorrow,".
"Administrators will be investigating this incident thoroughly," Casarico said in an email to parents. "If your child has any information that can assist in the investigation, please contact us immediately.
"The threat of violence may cause anxiety for some students, so we ask that you take a moment to talk with your child and see how he/she is feeling," he added. "If we can be of any assistance, please contact one of our school counselors."
Police from Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, Midland Park, and Upper Saddle River also responded.
