Task force members were watching as Shakir Major, 25, drove from Teaneck to Tenafly in the early afternoon hours of May 21, then parked near Oxford Drive, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said this afternoon.

Moments after the car pulled away, Tenafly police got a burglary call at an area residence, he said.

Detectives stopped and arrested Major in Dumont a short time later, then got a search warrant for his residence, where they found “a large amount of suspected burglary proceeds and burglary tools,” the prosecutor said.

Later that night, the task force member charged an alleged accomplice, 26-year-old Diandre Mikell after Teaneck police arrested him on an unrelated charge.

Both men are charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary and theft.

In addition, Greenwich police have charged Major with an April 19 attempted burglary, Molinelli said.

Authorities are trying to determine whether either or both were involved in other break-ins in three states – New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.

Under the direction of Chief Steven Cucciniello, the multi-jurisdictional task force included members of Molinelli’s Special Investigation Squad, which developed a list of potential suspects, and officers from several area police departments, including:

Englewood Police Department
Dumont Police Department
River Edge Police Department
Paramus Police Department
