“Rock for a Reason” will reunite the renowned “roller rink” rock band Spit-Roast Muppet, and feature the Police Pipes & Drums of Bergen County, as well as deejay music.

The event honors Justin Gerity, who is being treated at Columbia University Medical Center in New York for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic disease that recently has been publicized in TV spots by the NFL during its regular season and playoff games.

DMD, like other forms of muscular dystrophy, is characterized by a reduction in muscle strength due to weakening and deterioration. It strikes early in life and, tragically, is the most lethal childhood genetic disease.

Although he can still move around on his own, doctors say Justin’s muscles will continue to break down, sapping him of muscle strength and function.

“Rock for a Reason” has been organized by a network of friends who hope to raise money for a trust in Justin’s name that will generate awareness about DMD, possibly further research of this devastating illness, and offset the terribly expensive medical costs for Officer Tim Gerity, his wife, Angelina, and other families dealing with the disease.

Justin’s dad is extremely well known not just in Bergen County but throughout the state. Once a New Milford patrolman, he is now a Saddle River detective sergeant and past president of the New Jersey Association of School Resource Officers who works with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Task Force.

Duke Ocean Grill is easy to get to, located at 37 Route 303 in Tappan, NY. Doors open at 9 p.m., and admission is $15.

Direct donations are accepted, as well.  Checks written to “Rock for a Reason,” with “Justin Gerity DMD Trust” noted in the memo field, can be mailed to:
