The student told police she was approached around 6:15 p.m. Saturday at the NJ Transit station on Spring Street near Route 17 by the stranger, who asked if she wanted a ride back to the school.
She said she was waiting for the shuttle, Ramsey Police Chief Bryan Gurney said this afternoon.
He then “stated [that] he was the shuttle,” the chief said.
She walked away from the man, who was described only as Asian and in his mid-30s, Gurney said.
He was driving a dark-colored, four-door Chrysler or Pontiac with a rounded roof, the chief said.
“After conferring with the shuttle service, it was determined that they do not have a vehicle meeting that description in their fleet,” he said.

Ramapo College issued a notice that said: “All Ramapo College shuttles are properly marked. Do not enter into a vehicle claiming to be affiliated with Ramapo College that does not have Ramapo College markings.”
Ramsey police are “working with the New Transit Police to determine if there was any criminal intent,” Gurney said.
