Patrick Gawrysiak, 53, was arrested yesterday by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office White Collar Crimes Squad and charged with theft by deception.
Gawrysiak, of Franklin Turnpike, sold the victim a single share of DocsU.com, which “was purported to be a professional and social network for the medical profession,” Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli
said.
DocsU.com isn’t registed and “is not a viable company” in New Jersey, the prosecutor said.
Gawrysiak instead “provided fraudulent cash flow statements to the investor to further the impression that DocsU.com was a legitimate company,” Molnelli said.
A check of bank records showed that he used the money for personal expenses, the prosecutor said.
Bank records indicate that the $100,000.00 investment was used for personal expenses.
Investors also learned that Gawrysiak also continued acting as president and CEO Virtual Retail Group LLC, which state officials revoked from doing business in February 16.
In a variety of online posts, including a blog, Gawrysiak claims that he operated a group of companies, with 18 worldwide affiliates, that focued on “e-commerce and social media” and were worth $100 million.
According to his bio, General Motors hired him in 2005 to “redesign its intranet infrastructure and consult on media branding.”
In 2006 and 2007, it says, he helped Nestlé “in enhancing its Purina brand,” including creating a company that marketed prescription pet food online.
Gawrysiak, who posted $100,000 bail and was released shortly after his arrest, is due in Central Municipal Municipal Court in Hackensack this afternoon.
