Christie Marie Alvino, 30, of Monsey removed the key from the ignition and couldn’t produce credentials for the car when she was stopped for speeding Sunday night, Police Chief Benjamin C. Fox said this morning.

Officer Kyle Ferreira searched the car — owned by a friend of Alvino’s — and found syringes, one of which was in the child’s seat, the chief said.

Also found were 14 boxes of condoms, 10 boxes of baby formula and six boxes of teeth-whitening strips — worth a combined $872 — that had just been shoplifted from the Walgreens in Waldwick, Fox said.

Alvino, who was out on bail following arrests in at least three other towns, was taken into custody along with passenger Jennifer Brown, 51, of Paterson.

A check of surveillance tapes at the store showed both women going in and out twice, stealing the items, the chief said.

Alvino posted $5,000 bail and was released on charges of possessing stolen property and narcotics paraphernalia, Fox said.

Brown was charged with possession of stolen property, with bail at $5,000. She was turned over to authorities at the Bergen County Jail after claiming that she needed immediate medical care, he said.

Alvino was charged by Glen Rock police with shoplifting in June, by Fort Lee police in March — also for shoplifting — and by Wyckoff and Midland Park police last December in connection with counterfeit bills they said she passed.

Alvino posted $57,500 bail and was released in the Wyckoff/Midland Park case, records show.
