The 34-year-old mother was taken to The Valley Hospital as a precaution, as was her son, 5, who sustained a minor cut and bruises on his left foot.
“I just need two Band-Aids for my foot,” the youngster told Ridgewood Police Chief John Ward, who was in civilian clothes and rushed to the scene.

“He’s a trouper,” the chief told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
A second son, a 4-year-old who was in a stroller, was taken to the hospital by his grandmother, Ward said.
“Everybody’s OK. The mother is going to stay overnight, just as a precaution,” the chief said, adding that she complained of hip pain.
The second son wasn’t injured, he said.
The mother was pushing the stroller when they were struck on Godwin Avenue by a Nissan SUV that was making a left from South Monroe Street just after 9 a.m. Although an extremely low-impact collision, it knocked over the stroller and sent the mother’s sunglasses and the older boy’s lunchbox flying.
The driver, a 48-year-old Midland Park man who Ward said was distraught over the incident, told police he thought traffic had stopped for him. He was issued a summons for failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
Village police, firefighters and EMS workers were at the scene, along with emergency medical workers from The Valley Hospital.
