Overnight fire destroys Franklin Lakes home, car, kills cat

UPDATE: No major injuries were reported in a smoky overnight blaze that destroyed a Franklin Lakes home, drew dozens of firefighters and claimed the life of a family cat.

The Roberts Court fire began in a fireplace, spread to the garage and went to three alarms within an hour.

Two hours later, it was out.

More than 70 firefighters from Franklin Lakes, Fair Lawn, Mahwah, Midland Park, Oakland, Ramsey, Waldwick, and Wyckoff responded.

Some stuck around for a few hours afterward, tending to hot pockets, a fire official at the scene told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“It was a really nice two-story residence that was completely gutted,” he said. “There also was a vehicle in the driveway that was barely even a shell by the time the fire was out.”
