New Year’s Eve driver charged in DWI hit, run crash on Route 4 in Fair Lawn

ONLY ON CVP: A drunk New Year’s Eve driver kept going after his car t-boned another in Fair Lawn, but Paramus police stopped him a short time later, authorities said today.

Michael Ortiz, 23, was stopped on Route 4 east moments after the crash at Saddle River Road just before 9 p.m. last Wednesday, Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

He was carrying marijuana at the time, Metzler said.

Ortiz was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center for treatment of crash injuries before being released on a summons to appear in Fair Lawn Municipal Court.

Police charged him with DWI, reckless driving, improper passing, leaving the scene of a crash and drug possession.

Ortiz was coming off of the flyover from Broadway onto Route 4 east, just before Paramus border, when his car struck one coming off Route 208 south, Metzler said.
