Saddle River Police Sgt. Jason Cosgriff stopped the vehicle about a half-hour after New Milford police issued the 12:30 alert.
A witness had called police saying he saw one of the men force his way into a Faller Drive apartment, New Milford Police Chief Frank Papapietro said.
“It was apparent that the apartment was burglarized and the suspect left via the kitchen window,” the chief said, adding that police found $960 in cash stolen from the apartment and tossed on the ground outside.
The caller also got a license plate number, leading to the alert.
Cosgriff spotted the car headed north on Route 17 a short time later.
He stopped the vehicle on East Crescent Avenue behind the Pathmark shopping center, as units from Ramsey, Upper Saddle River and Mahwah converged on the scene.
“The occupants of the vehicle were non-compliant with verbal commands from the police officers and were removed at gunpoint without incident,” an officer at the scene told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Arrested were the driver, identified as 25-year-old Ian Skelly, and Charles Davis, 22, both of Ramsey.
Both were taken to New Milford police headquarters, where they were being processed this afternoon, along with the vehicle, which was impounded, Papapietro said.
Charges were pending against Davis for burglary, theft and criminal mischief, and against Skelly for drug and paraphernalia possession. Saddle River police also issued Skelly motor vehicle summonses.
