Wyckoff police originally arrested Lisa Cannon in October in connection with a neighborhood burglary spree, with assistance from investigators of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Enforcement Bureau.
They later added fraud-related charges, saying that she bought obtaining Lunesta and Klonopin from a Midland Park pharmacy by writing phony prescriptions.
Det. Sgt. Joseph Soto and Det. Sgt. Michael Musto brought new charges after connecting Cannon, 46, to the Nov. 5 burglary of a Demarest Avenue home.
“The homeowners were able to very accurately describe some of the stolen jewelry, and the detectives discovered that the jewelry was being sold on the internet,” Chief Benjamin Fox said..
The detectives got a search warrant and found much of the jewelry in Cannon’s house, the chief said.
It was an important find, he said, in that the jewelry “had a sentimental value to the family.”
Cannon, arrested twice for DWI in late summer, admitted that she took bicycles from garages, a laptop from a kitchen and a large terra cotta planter, landscape lights and decorative patio chairs from outside her neighbors’ homes in the middle of the night, Fox told CLIFFVIEW PILOT at the time.
Cannon sold several bikes to a local shop whose owner helped police with their investigation, the chief said.
Police also found raffle tickets, along with paperwork “indicating that the raffle benefited an organization that is not known to exist,” he said. She was also charged with possession of burglar tools for having a canvass bag containing a flashlight, screw driver, hammer, and rubber gloves, which police said she used during her nighttime burglary sprees, Fox said.
Wyckoff detectives investigating the break-ins noticed that people frequently were coming and going from Cannon’s home, Fox said. When interviewed, they said they were being treated by her, he said. Cannon practiced critical care medicine, pulmonology and internal medicine out of Waldwick, Ridgewood and Ho-Ho-Kus before losing her license in June, records show.
“While there is no known incident of medical treatment that would have placed patients in danger, anyone with questions about the medical care they received or about their medical records, can contact the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Enforcement Bureau at 973-504-6300,” Fox said.
Soon after the October arrest, police said they found a $1,000 racing bike they said Cannon stole from the garage of a Rodney Road home — leading to more charges.
Cannon, who graduated from the College of the Holy Cross and received her M.D. degree from New York Medical College, grew up in Wyckoff. Her father is James A. Cannon, a Marine veteran who has been the Chief Financial Officer of BBDO Worldwide since 1984, overseeing the management of the corporation’s operations in 77 countries, records show. Her mother is a realtor.
Wyckoff police arrested Cannon for drunk driving in the middle of the afternoon on Aug. 24 after her car jumped a curb and nearly hit two pedestrians, records show. A month later, Cannon — who wasn’t supposed to be driving — crashed her car in the Wyckoff Shopping Center parking lot, also around 5 p.m. Test results showed that she was under the influence of an undisclosed drug, police records show.
She remains free on bail pending grand jury action on all of the various charges.
