More charges against accused burglar doc, police say patients needn’t fear

CLIFFVIEW PILOT HAS IT FIRST: Wyckoff police said they turned up more goods that a former doctor arrested twice within a month for under-the-influence car crashes stole from neighbors homes in the middle of the night. They also said they don’t suspect patients treated after she lost her license had inadequate medical care.

Lisa Marie Cannon, 46, remains held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail followind her arrest last Friday by Wyckoff Detective Sgt. Joseph Soto and Detective Michael Musto, with assistance from investigators of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Enforcement Bureau.

Police have added additional charges of  burglary and theft after police found a $1,000 racing bike they said Cannon stole from the garage of a Rodney Road home.

She was also charged with possession of burglar tools for having a canvass bag containing a flashlight, screw driver, hammer, and rubber gloves, which police said she used during her nighttime burglary sprees.

There have been some inquiries to the Wyckoff Police from patients [who] visited Cannon for her services as a physician and have read about her arrest,” Chief Benjamin Fox said. “While there is no known incident of medical treatment that would have placed patients in danger, anyone with questions about the medical care they received or about their medical records, can contact the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Enforcement Bureau at 973-504-6300.”

Cannon, who was placed on the inactive list on June 30, admitted that she took bicycles from garages, a laptop from a kitchen and a large terra cotta planter, landscape lights and decorative patio chairs from outside her neighbors’ homes in the middle of the night, Fox told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Cannon sold several bikes to a local shop whose owner helped police with their investigation, Fox said.

Police also found the raffle tickets, along with paperwork “indicating that the raffle benefited an organization that is not known to exist,” he said.

Wyckoff detectives investigating the break-ins noticed that people frequently were coming and going from Cannon’s home, Fox said. When interviewed, they said they were being treated by her, he said.

Wyckoff police already knew Cannon: They arrested her for drunk driving in the middle of the afternoon on Aug. 24 after her car jumped a curb and nearly hit two pedestrians, records show. A month later, Cannon — who wasn’t supposed to be driving — crashed her car in the Wyckoff Shopping Center parking lot, also around 5 p.m. Test results showed that she was under the influence of an undisclosed drug, police records show.

Cannon, who graduated from the College of the Holy Cross and received her M.D. degree from New York Medical College, grew up in Wyckoff.

Her father is James A. Cannon, a Marine veteran who has been the Chief Financial Officer of BBDO Worldwide since 1984, overseeing the management of the corporation’s operations in 77 countries, records show. Her mother is a realtor.

Cannon practiced critical care medicine, pulmonology and internal medicine out of Waldwick, Ridgewood and Ho-Ho-Kus before losing her license, records show.

She is being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, theft, practicing medicine without a license and assorted other counts.
