Edward Cobb, a father of three and former U.S. Navy Seal who was a “high-level player in Blackwater,” was being treated at the hospital for breast cancer and melanoma, sources said.
Cobb was to have surrendered to the U.S. Marshals Service yesterday but didn’t show, leading a U.S. District Court judge to issue a warrant for his arrest, Police Capt. Timothy Lloyd said.
He was taken to the emergency trauma unit at HUMC and was pronounced dead at 6:50 p.m., Lloyd told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Two days ago, he texted a friend thanking him for all he’d done for him — which now, in retrospect, “was him saying goodbye,” the friend said.
Cobb’s wife was “shocked and devastated on so many levels,” the friend told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Records show a decades-long criminal history for Cobb — a former Glen Rock and Fairview resident — that includes home invasions, kidnapping and burglary.
“He was faking dementia to try and stay out of prison,” a law enforcement official told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “He originally was supposed to surrender in San Antonio in January.”
