A patrol officer tried to pull over 38-year-old Tyrone Levon Cherry, of Salisbury MD, at 12:30 a.m. Saturday when he took off, police said.

During the subsequent chase, they said, Cherry’s car hit a curb in Ho-Ho-Kus and stopped.

Police found a gun on the side of the highway in Paramus that Cherry had tossed out the window, they said. It contained the illegal ammunition. They also took $4,000 cash “which is believed to have been derived from criminal activity,” they said in a release.

Cherry was being held on $40,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with two counts of illegal gun possession, possession of the bullets and money laundering (for the cash).
