The passenger — who was in a pickup truck pulling a log splitter on a small trailer — was struck around 5:30 p.m. after a minivan barreled in off the northbound highway and hit the truck, which was stopped at the Valero station.

The impact dislodged the splitter, which hit the victim. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.

The Toyota Sienna continued on, crashing into a guardrail.

The minivan driver was issued summonses, Upper Saddle River Police Chief Patrick Rotella told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.
