Village Patrol Officer Shayne James (left) and an unidentified representative of Ho-Ho-Kus-based Tyco Animal Control decided to leave the turtle in place in the Irene Habernickel Family Park on Hillcrest Road.

They’ll check back later this week to see whether she freed herself on her own.

The Tyco representative said she probably laid eggs somewhere in the park and was in the process of returning to her natural habitat.
