The 17-year-old driver from Union County wasn’t issued any summonses after his Nissan Altima hit Lisa Borsellino in the road’s northbound lanes as she headed to the city homeless shelter, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Bergen County Sheriff’s officers outside the jail rushed to Borsellino’s aid and called in the crash at 8:26 p.m..

She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where Salcedo said she was pronounced dead.

The HPD’s Traffic Division investigated.

“Obviously her crossing against the green and not in the crosswalk contributed to the accident,” Salcedo said.

The 5-foot-4-inch, 145-pound Borsellino, who also had lived in Hawthorne, spent seven months in the county jail before being released in July for a DWI conviction out of Glen Rock. Her license was revoked for life, sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
