Claudia Yanira Hernandez Soriano, 25, and Juan Francisco Martinez Rojas, 28, were “punching and scratching each other” after returning to their first-floor Waldwick Avenue home from a party around 4 a.m. when Ana Angelina Rojas-Jovel intervened, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said tonight.

Hernandez Soriano assaulted the woman, sending her into cardias arrest, Molinelli said.

She then “concealed items of evidence [that] were later found during a search of the crime scene,” he said.

Waldwick police responding to their 911 call found the victim dead on a bedroom floor, the prosecutor said.

Molinelli’s detectives were called, and they interviewed witnesses, including the child, he said. The body also was removed by the Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Hernandez Soriano was being held on $250,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail on charges of second-degree manslaughter, simple assault, hindering and child endangerment.

Martinez Rojas — like Hernandez, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador — was being held on $75,000 bail on assault and child endangerment counts.

A first court appearance for both was set for Thursday morning in Superior Court in Hackensack.
