Hazmat units clean up acid from container found on Franklin Turnpike in Allendale

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Hazardous materials units from Bergen County and Mahwah removed five gallons of an acid used for cleaning concrete that leaked from a container apparently dropped or left in the middle of Franklin Turnpike in Allendale this morning.

The incident, near Nadler Court, closed Franklin Turnpike in both directions between West Crescent Avenue and Ivers Road.

No injures were reported.

Emergency personnel on the scene didn’t indicate how the container wound up in the roadway nor who might be responsible for it.

Besides the county and Mahwah hazmat units, Allendale police and firefighters responded.
