Haworth woman, 86, drives car through back of garage into neighbor’s yard

ONLY ON CVP: Haworth police requested a driver re-examination by New Jersey Motor Vehicle Services for an 86-year-old borough woman who plowed her car through the back of her garage and into a neighbor’s backyard this morning.

The St. Albans Place woman wasn’t injured in the 10:49 a.m. mishap, Lt. Thomas Ryan told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

She told police she “thought she was pressing the brake” when her 1979 Mercury barreled through the rear wall of the garage and into her Sunset Avenue neighbor’s yard, Ryan said.

The car sustained damage to the front, sides and undercarriage, he said.

Also damaged was a motorcycle that was being stored in the garage, the lieutenant said.

Haworth firefighters and EMS workers responded, along with Demarest firefighters. The woman’s daughter came up from Lebanon, NJ, police said.
