The two-alarm blaze on Ramapo Brae Lane broke out around 3:45 a.m., bringing several area companies — including all five of Mahwah’s.
It collapsed the roof and first floor ceiling of the middle unit. But an aggressive attack by firefighters, combined with firewalls, limited the serious damage. Still, it took nearly four hours to put down the blaze because it had to be fought entirely from outside, emergency workers at the scene said.
Four other units were evacuated as a precaution, Mahwah Police Lt. Scott Cherven said.
Suffern and Ramsey sent their FAST teams. Allendale also responded. Franklin Lakes and Upper Saddle River covered for Mahwah, while Oakland remained on standby.
A Mahwah police investigator was at the scene this morning, Cherven said.
