Various fire departments rushed to the Meineke Car Care Center on the highway’s northbound side — among them, Ramsey, Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus (FAST), Upper Saddle River and Waldwick — as the blaze quickly went to three alarms at dusk.

Franklin Lakes remained on standby.

Firefighters continued to battle flame pockets past 8 p.m.

A Mahwah firefighter was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with an arm injury.

Primary searches were negative.

The fire apparently began on the second floor roof and spread to the back wall, one emergency responder told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The design at first posed some problems because of transmission antennae around the building, another said.
