The fingerprint was taken by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification and entered into a national database after a Mill Road resident called police about the June 7 burglary and theft of the vehicle, Saddle River Police Lt. John Gaffney said.
Within hours, police in Brooklyn’s 79th Precinct recovered the car, which had been used in another burglary.
Then, on July 3, police in the 44th Precinct in the Bronx notified their Saddle River colleagues that they’d taken their suspect into custody in connection with another crime.
Darwin S. Nunez, 22, was shipped to Riker’s Island pending an extradition hearing.
Last week, Saddle River detectives finally picked up Nunez and brought him to headquarters, where he was questioned and charged with burglary, theft and theft of a motor vehicle.
Nunez was being held on $250,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
