The Oxford Avenue fire broke out around 3:45, Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert J. Kugler told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Responders found heavy fire and smoke from inside and both Robert L. Myerjack Sr. and his son, Robert, 51, in a neighbor’s yard.

“They had minor burns and smoke inhalation,” the chief said, adding that the Saddle Brook Volunteer Ambulance Corps took both to Hackensack University Medical Center.

The single-floor house was substantially damaged.

The cause hadn’t yet been determined.
