Tickets are still available for this Friday’s “Fashion for Freedom” show, sponsored by Fair Lawn’s Adopt a Soldier Platoon and benefiting many of those who set off for the Middle East from the Teaneck Armory.

Operation New Jersey supports soldiers from the area and their comrades who are in harm’s way, with packages from home that include Kindle Fires, TRX exercise gear and holiday cartons of food, snacks, ChapStick and other goods.

It goes beyond that, though: True essentials, such as shower heads and switches to control water flow, make the operation special.

Current “adoptees” come from Cresskill, Fair Lawn, Hackensack, Oradell and Waldwick who are deployed in Afghanistan.

The 250 or so soldiers are with the 117th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, based in West Trenton and the 508th Military Police Company out of the Teaneck Armory.

The non-profit Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon has been extremely successful, but it needs donations and contributions in order to continue.
