With a fraction under 100% of the votes counted, Bergen County went for President Obama, despite having a Republican county executive and governor:
DEM – BARACK OBAMA / JOE BIDEN 192,460 54.97%
REP – MITT ROMNEY / PAUL RYAN 154,418 44.10%

The New Jersey Turnpike was closed near the George Washington Bridge late this afternoon to let PSE&G do work on sagging power lines, clogging rush-hour traffic from Manhattan there and on Route 80. Traffic remained snarled after it was re-opened, preventing some who didn’t already vote this morning from getting to the polls by the 8 p.m. close.
NJ News Commons, joined by news organizations across the state, is running a public service campaign to track voting problems in the state following the ravages of Superstorm Sandy.
A NJ Voter Problem Hotline — 732-903-VOTE — is being monitored continuously by students at Montclair State University during polling hours (until 8 tonight), thanks to NJ News Commons (The state is operating its own hotline — 877-NJ-VOTES — which provides prompts in English and Spanish to help with voting).
Given the sheer size of the election, to go with the post-Sandy damage, the #NJVote hotline at NJ News Commons had only 250 calls and 66 incidents plotted on a crowdmap as of 3:30 this afternoon. The biggest involved an unmanned ballot box in Middletown. There was also a voting machine in the wrong spot in Hoboken and poll workers sending voters back to a closed station in Montclair.

It may not be over tonight: In response to widespread reports that residents displaced by Hurricane Sandy hadn’t received their email and fax ballots today, the state has extended the deadline to return those ballots to county clerks to 8 p.m. Friday.
Fewer than 100 polling places around the state were without power compared to 800 just days ago, convincing the federal government to ditch its plan to use military trucks.
State officials have taken steps to make sure those displaced have an opportunity to vote — such as having “authorized messengers” pick up ballots for people not at their homes.

“We are doing everything we can in this extraordinary situation not to disenfranchise voters displaced by Sandy. Their voices and their votes will be heard no differently than anyone else’s,” said Ernie Landante, a spokesman for the New Jersey Division of Elections.New Jersey has also set up a text messaging system for people who don’t know where their polling place is. If you’re not sure, text 877877 with your address. You’ll get a text back with your polling station.
ALSO: BE SURE TO confirm your vote. It’s a crime to take a photo of your ballot. What you must do if your vote is somehow changed is stay at the polling station, call an attendant IMMEDIATELY and refuse to submit your vote until it’s corrected.
