Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut out the driver, initially reported to be a 26-year-old Newark man. His injuries were deemed serious.

An emergency worker sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene.

Four people were aboard the Waldwick-bound Bergen line #1859 train heading north when it struck the car shortly after 9 a.m., NJ Transit’s John Durso told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Because of the holiday schedule, there were no delays in service, Durso said.
