Joseph Davidson, 33, of Hawthorne, was trying to change lanes in his 2006 Chrysler when it slammed into the woman’s 2014 Volvo, sending it off northbound Route 208 near Maple Avenue and into the pole just before 9 p.m., Sgt. Brian Metzler said this afternoon.

The toppled pole trapped the woman, who managed to get out, he said.

Fair Lawn Ambulance took her to The Valley Hospital with head, chest and arm injuries, the sergeant said.

The Chrysler also hit another vehicle, a 2006 Toyota operated by a 52-year-old Ridgewood man who Metzler said wasn’t injured.

Davidson was arrested after failing a roadside sobriety test and released on charges of assault by auto, possession of drug paraphernalia, making an unsafe lane change, reckless driving, operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner, careless driving and DWI, Metzler said.
