Darshana Gandhi, 57, of Upper Saddle River was driving her blue Lexus north on East Saddle River Road around 1:15 Saturday afternoon when it crossed into the southbound lane, hit a guardrail and hit both bicyclists, Saddle River Police Chief Timothy J. McWilliams said.

One victim was transported by Medevac helicopter, the other by ground ambulance, to Hackensack University Medical Center, where they were undergoing treatment for their injuries, the chief said.

Darshana Gandhi also was taken to HUMC by ambulance, he said. The extent of her injuries were unknown.

Saddle River police handled the investigation, with assistance from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Gandhi, a longtime volunteer of the Share and Care Foundation and a member of the Saddle River Garden Club, was charged with two counts of 4th-degree assault by auto, reckless driving and failing to maintain a lane, police said.

She received court summonses and was released.
