"No crime was committed," Detective Lt. Edward Kane told Daily Voice at 8 p.m. "The incident is over."

The call to the Fair Motel came in just before 4:30 p.m. that a guest apparently was barricaded in Room 8, Kane said.

Officers responded but got no response from inside, he said.

A Bergen County Regional SWAT was summoned, broke down the door and found the room vacant, Kane said.

Although someone had been in the room earlier, there was no proof that person did anything wrong, he said.

The scene was cleared at 7:20 p.m.
