A Paramus dispatcher took the 12:56 a.m. 911 call and broadcast an alert that brought Washington Township Police Officers Vincent Montalbano and Travis Cangialosi, along with counterparts from Westwood, Hillsdale, Emerson, River Vale, Ridgewood, Ho-Ho-Kus, the Bergen County Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification to Van Emburgh Avenue.
The homeowner told Montalbano and Cangialosi that he “encountered a white male dressed in all black with his face concealed,” according to Washington Township Police Chief Randy Ciocco.
The residnet said he “scuffled” with the intruder, who then ran to the master bedroom and locked the door behind him.
Police forced open the door, but no one was inside, the chief said.
By this point, several officers from various departments had arrived and a permeter was set up.
“After further investigation it was revealed that the actor made entry through a master bathroom window and exited that way, closing the window behind him to conceal his point of entry,” Ciocco said, without elaborating.
