Officer James Bakelaar clocked 34-year-old Michael S. Scian of Pompton Plains at 74 miles an hour on Route 208 just before 3 a.m. Saturday, Police Chief Benjamin Fox said this morning.

Scian pulled off at Cedar Hill Avenue and continued going, with Bakelaar in pursuit, through several streets before bailing out at the end of Brewster Road, Fox said.

The Midland Park officer spotted Scian at Sicomac and Cedar Hill avenues and took him into custody, the chief said.

Scian was charged with DWI and eluding a police officer while also receiving the summonses.

He was released without bail to a friend pending a Municipal Court hearing.
