The man said he lost his dog, then took off, so the resident called Allendale police — who ended up arresting the interloper on burglary-related charges after finding what they said was a small prying tool in his waistband.

The East Allendale Avenue resident called just before 11:30 a.m. Monday. Officers Joseph Galasso and Paul Stettner got their quickly, searched the area and, two blocks away, found 32-year-old Noah Gavulis of Saylorsburg, PA.

Gavulis is being held in the Bergen County Jail, charged with attempted burglary, possession of a burglary tool and trespassing. Borough police ask that any Allendale residents or business owners who may have had a break-in or similar incident contact them at 201-825-1900.
