Ferdinand Cazeau, 42, of East Orange was threatening co-workers at a Pearl Court business in the Allendale Business Park when police were called just after 10 a.m. Saturday, Police Chief George Scherb told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

Officers Sean Hubbard and Dan Rosendahl were “escorted to the rear loading dock of the building where the suspect was standing,” Scherb said.

“He immediately began to menace the officers with the knives,” he said.

“After several minutes of talking to the man, officers were able to persuade him to throw down the knives,” the chief said, “but he remained aggressive, continuing to threaten the officers.

“The officers continued their attempts to talk to the man, but he refused to comply with their directions,” Scherb said. “He was finally subdued after a brief struggle and was taken into custody.”

Cazeau was being held on $25,000 bail in Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus. He’s charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, making terroristic threats and two weapons possession counts.

Scherb thanked police from Ramsey, Saddle River and Upper Saddle River Police Department, along with the Allendale Volunteer Ambulance Corps, for their assistance “in bringing this potentially tragic incident to a safe conclusion.”
