He was born in Paterson and grew up in Oakland before moving to Waldwick 15 years ago.
He was a senior quality control inspector for Honeywell for 25 years and most recently worked for Tam Metal in Mahwah. He enjoyed all aspects of the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, bicycling and bird watching. He was a devoted New York Mets and Jets fan.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; sister, Christine Bush and her husband Steve; and three brothers, Bill and his wife Peg, Mickey and his wife Maria and Kevin.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Irene Thys.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff. There will be a funeral service at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, 234 Paramus Road, Paramus.
