Jason Sippel, the managing director of JP Morgan in American Equities Trading, sent a letter to borough officials after Crames died this past June offering $20,000 to benefit the police department, Mayor Joanne Minichetti told Daily Voice.
A check that Sippel gave to borough officials Thursday night will be used to purchase portable radio equipment for the police department.
“He always was a really strong supporter of the police department and of law enforcement in general,” Minichetti said.
The Bronx-born Crames worked in the brokerage business for more than 60 years after starting out as a $38-a-week runner out of high school. He eventually became executive director at JP Morgan Chase.
Crames, who had moved to upstate New York, made several donations to the USR police department throughout his life, the mayor said.
Several borough business operators and law enforcement officers attended his funeral in Saratoga Springs.
“He was a really great guy,” Minichetti said. “The fact that his business partner is coming to make this donation in [his] memory just kind of tells you about the person he was.”
