UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J. -- Jennifer Ranges, of Upper Saddle River Troop 1470, built a mediation garden for the Center for Hope and Safety (formerly Shelter our Sisters) for her Girl Scout Award project.
The Center for Hope and Safety is the only safe haven in Bergen County for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
For her project, Ranges wanted to create a tranquil and safe outdoor space where residents at the shelter could relax. He work included plantings as well as building benches for the garden.
Residents of the Center for Hope and Safety helped work on the garden, creating their own pavers in an art class Ranges hosted.
The women placed the pavers in the garden during the ribbon-cutting ceremony last November.
In addition to her work at the shelter, Ranges hosted a yoga class in the Upper Saddle River Library to teach her peers about the importance of finding ways to relax and de-stress.
