CHS is Bergen County's nonprofit agency that educates and assists people who have been affected by domestic violence.
The longstanding church hosted "Healing Hands for Healing Victims of Domestic Violence" on Oct. 19. The evening's activities included yoga, meditation and reiki energy healing.
"We wanted to create a safe, healing and nurturing environment explicitly for these women, where they would receive unconditional love and support in their healing journey," Nelson said.

"All of us were grateful to be able to offer empowering techniques that this community can apply in their daily lives to relieve stress and find their own inner peace," said Eileen Alexander, of the Body Image Boutique.
"Besides what they learned at this event, the women were immensely touched that people in the community would think to do something like this just for them -- that others cared what they had been through, said Jean Kirch, director of Development at the Center for Hope and Safety.
The organizers plan to continue offering empowering community gatherings like this.
For over 40 years, the CHS -- formerly called Shelter Our Sisters -- has offered refuge to thousands of women and children by providing a continuum of services that focus on attaining safety, empowerment and self-sufficiency.
CHS’s array of programs include a 24-hour hotline, a confidential emergency shelter, transitional housing, crisis counseling, case management, children's programming, legal assistance, Hispanic outreach, financial literacy and work readiness training, follow-up services, and community education.
