ALLENDALE, N.J. -- An Allendale mom is an event planner on a mission to help women look and feel their best for the special occasions in their lives.

Amanda Hudes, 34, formerly from Hastings-on-Hudson, started Smiling Through Chaos to help women feel beautiful and empowered.

She primarily helps women plan weddings, but she's also hired to help people prepare for any major lifetime event.

"I love weddings, especially when I can help someone from the very beginning," said the pregnant mom of a son and two step-daughters.

Certified in reiki, yoga, group fitness and nutrition, Hudes helps women shake off stress and feel great during the planning process.

"I become their friend and confidant," she said.

"But sometimes it's just helping someone find a dress," she added.

The business started accidentally. She was a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology when her food intolerances drew attention.

"Everyone is on a diet there and people asked me for help. I don’t believe in diets. I believe in personalizing a food plan around what is good for a particular person," she said

She soon became known for devising eating plans that helped people lose weight in a healthy way.

"I have a very happy disposition and people enjoy working with me. I really care about my clients — sometimes more than they care about achieving their goals," she said.

She worked in fashion and corporate event planning, doing weddings on the side, before launching Smiling Through Chaos last year.

"My goal is to keep helping people. The more smiles I can see on people’s faces, the better. I want to help as many people as possible."
