Hundreds Dance In Ho-Ho-Kus For Mom Paralyzed In Freak Accident

HO-HO-KUS, N.J. — Some 250 people wearing pink “I Shimmy for Christine” T-shirts turned out for “Dance for Danza” at the Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus Sunday.

The energy was electrifying as participants of all ages did their best to Zumba for 90 minutes.

Their goal: to have fun and raise money for Christine Danza, a Ho-Ho-Kus mom of twins.

She was paralyzed last December in a freak accident in her home.

Four Zumba and fitness instructors, led by Host Instructor Mary-Lee Costello, danced their heart out as Danza sat stageside in an upholstered chair.

She faced the dance floor with her feet elevated.

Well-wishers came up to greet her or give her a kiss as the beat went on.

The guest instructors were Shelley Capener and Stacie DeSena as well as Heather Gordon, an international fitness instructor formerly with “Lord of the Dance.”

Some 100 people had pre-registered for the event, organized by The Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus and Danza’s friends.

But many more showed up Sunday.

The pink T-shirts were sold at the event.

Organizers said Sunday afternoon it was still too early to say how much had been raised to help Danza.
